Twitter to introduce multi-tiered ad-free subscription next year

The company re-launched the Twitter Blue sign earlier on Monday after clarifying a week ago that blue checks will be reserved for individuals, while business and government accounts will stand out with gold and grey check marks.

Microblogging site Twitter is set to roll out a multi-tiered ad-free subscription by next year. Its Basic blue tick will have half the number of advertisements, while the social media platform will offer a higher tier with no advertisements by 2023, Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk tweeted on Monday, without elaborating further on the details.

Twitter Blue will come with a monthly subscription price of $8 on the web and $11 on Apple devices, respectively. Nearly 90% of the company’s revenue comes from selling digital ads. However, there was a massive ‘massive drop in revenue recently which Musk attributed to civil rights organisations that have pressured brands to pause their Twitter ads.
